Routine : Diary App is developed by Amal Jose. This policy explains how the app handles your data. Routine is built on an offline-first, privacy-first philosophy — your diary entries and personal content never leave your device unless you explicitly choose to back them up to your own Google Drive.
Routine collects no personal information directly. The app does not require account creation, login, email address, or any form of user identification.
The only data stored by the app is kept exclusively on your device:
| Data | Where stored | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Diary entries, images, stickers, settings, fonts, custom themes | Local SQLite database (sqflite) | Core app functionality |
Premium status flags (premium_unlocked, was_ever_subscriber) |
Local SharedPreferences (on-device only) | Track whether a valid subscription is active; distinguish new vs. lapsed subscribers for appropriate UX |
| Downloaded background images & sticker packs | Local device storage | Reduce install size; only downloaded on demand |
No analytics SDKs, crash-reporting services, advertising networks, or third-party trackers are included in this app.
All diary entries, images, stickers, and app settings are stored on your device using a local SQLite database via the Flutter sqflite package. Your diary data never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable the Google Drive backup feature (see Section 4).
The optional lock-screen feature uses your device's built-in authentication (PIN, pattern, or biometrics). No credentials are stored or handled by the app itself.
Routine works fully offline. The app connects to the internet solely to download optional visual content from Supabase:
These downloads reduce the app's installation size. The app only retrieves files from Supabase; it never uploads any user data, diary content, device identifiers, or analytics to Supabase or any other server. All downloaded files are stored locally on your device.
Premium subscribers can optionally back up their diary data to their own personal Google Drive account and restore it later. This feature is entirely opt-in and requires you to explicitly sign in with your Google account.
Google Drive's own privacy practices govern how your data is stored once it reaches your Drive. You can review Google's Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Routine offers an optional premium subscription (monthly, quarterly, and yearly plans) that unlocks features such as custom themes and Google Drive backup.
premium_unlocked) and one indicating you have ever subscribed (was_ever_subscriber). No purchase tokens, transaction IDs, or plan details are stored by the app itself.premium_unlocked flag is cleared from your device. The was_ever_subscriber flag is retained permanently on your device solely to offer appropriate re-subscribe UX to lapsed subscribers. For details on how Google handles billing and purchase data, refer to Google Play's Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
The app requests only the permissions required for its features:
| Permission | Reason |
|---|---|
| Internet | Download optional backgrounds & stickers from Supabase; authenticate with Google for Drive backup |
| Storage / Media | Save images added to diary entries; store downloaded backgrounds and stickers locally |
| Google Account (OAuth) | Authenticate with Google to access your own Google Drive for backup/restore (only requested when you initiate this feature) |
Routine does not access your contacts, location, microphone, camera, call logs, SMS, or any other sensitive device data.
All diary data is stored locally on your device. Its security depends on your device's own security measures (screen lock, biometric authentication, encryption). The optional app lock screen adds an extra layer using your device's native authentication — your credentials are never handled by Routine.
For data you choose to back up to Google Drive, security is governed by Google's infrastructure and your own Google account security settings (we recommend enabling two-factor authentication on your Google account).
All data remains on your device until you manually delete it or uninstall the application. Uninstalling will permanently remove all locally stored data, including diary entries, downloaded backgrounds, stickers, and subscription status flags.
If you have used the Google Drive backup feature, your backup file will remain in your personal Google Drive after uninstalling the app. You can delete it at any time directly from your Google Drive. Routine has no ability to delete data from your Drive on your behalf after you revoke access.
When a premium subscription expires or is cancelled, premium features (such as custom themes) are deactivated on your device. Your diary entries and all other local data are never deleted due to subscription status changes.
Routine is offline-first. All diary entries, stickers, and settings live only on your device. We do not operate a server or user database, so there is no account to delete — only local files.
Delete local diary data — use either method:
Delete your Google Drive backup (if you enabled it):
Routine does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. As the app does not collect user data, it complies with Google Play's User Data and Families Policies. The subscription feature is subject to Google Play's standard purchase flow, which requires a valid payment method.
This Privacy Policy may be updated when new features are added or if legal requirements change. Any updates will be reflected by revising the effective date at the top of this page. We recommend reviewing this policy when updating the app to a new major version.
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, your data, or need help with deletion, please reach out. We aim to respond within 2 business days.
